Traditional Ayurvedic Warm Oil Massage

Gentle relief for a body that’s been carrying too much.

Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic massage using warm, nourishing herbal oils and gentle, rhythmic movements to encourage deep relaxation, ease physical tension, and support a calmer nervous system.
Unlike deep-tissue massage, Abhyanga does not rely on intense pressure to create a meaningful experience.
Its gentle, repetitive movements offer an opportunity for the body to soften, rest, and release some of the tension it has been holding.
Whether you’re living with chronic pain, recovering from childbirth, experiencing burnout, or simply craving time to care for yourself, Abhyanga offers a space to receive nourishment and rest.

Who Can Benefit from Abhyanga?

Chronic Pain & Fibromyalgia

When you’re living with chronic pain or fibromyalgia, even a conventional massage can sometimes feel overwhelming.
Abhyanga’s gentle, rhythmic movements and warm oil create a deeply relaxing experience that may help ease muscle tension and provide temporary relief from discomfort.
Its gentle nature can be especially comforting for those living with heightened sensitivity to touch, while offering a uniquely nourishing experience even for those who typically enjoy deeper massage techniques.

Postpartum Nourishment

In Ayurveda, the postpartum period is considered one of the most important times for rest, warmth, and nourishment.
After pregnancy and childbirth, a woman’s body has undergone tremendous physical and emotional change, often while adjusting to interrupted sleep and the constant demands of caring for a newborn.
Traditional Ayurvedic postpartum care places great importance on warm oil application to support grounding, relaxation, and a sense of being cared for.
Abhyanga offers mothers an opportunity to receive the same attention and nourishment they so often give to others.

Burnout & Nervous System Overwhelm

When you’re constantly moving from one responsibility to the next, it can become difficult to truly rest, even when you finally have the time.
Abhyanga uses slow, rhythmic movements and warm oil to create a deeply calming sensory experience.
For women experiencing exhaustion, mental overwhelm, and the physical tension that often accompanies prolonged stress, this is an opportunity to slow down without having to accomplish anything.
Women’s Self-Care & Restoration
You don’t need to be in pain or completely exhausted to deserve care.
Abhyanga can also be a regular practice of nourishment, grounding, and reconnecting with your body.
In Ayurveda, oil application is traditionally considered an important part of caring for ourselves throughout the different seasons and stages of life.
Rather than waiting until you’re depleted, Abhyanga invites you to make rest and nourishment part of how you care for yourself.
Depression, Anxiety & Mental Overwhelm
When your mind feels constantly busy, your emotions feel heavy, or you’re struggling to find moments of peace, even resting can feel difficult.
Abhyanga offers a gentle, grounding experience through warm oil, rhythmic touch, and an unhurried pace. This combination can encourage nervous system relaxation, ease physical tension, and create a sense of calm when you’re feeling emotionally overwhelmed.
For those experiencing anxiety, depression, or emotional exhaustion, Abhyanga offers an opportunity to step away from the demands of daily life and simply receive care, without needing to talk, explain, or do anything at all.

What Makes Abhyanga Different from Traditional Massage?

Abhyanga is rooted in Ayurveda, an ancient system of wellness that considers the relationship between the body, mind, and our environment.
In Sanskrit, Sneha refers to both oil and love, reflecting the significance of oil application as an act of nourishment and care.
During Abhyanga, generous amounts of warm, sesame-based oil are applied using gentle, rhythmic strokes.
Many of my clients have shared that one of the most meaningful parts of their Abhyanga experience is how deeply cared for they feel. Beyond the warmth of the oil and the calming movements, there is an intention behind every touch: to offer an experience of genuine care, nourishment, and rest.

What to Expect During Your Session

Your session begins with warm, nourishing oil applied generously to the body through gentle, rhythmic movements.
Special attention is given to the head and scalp, an important component of traditional Ayurvedic oil massage.
The movements are steady and unhurried, allowing you time to settle into the experience.
Your session concludes with the soothing sounds of singing bowls, offering a few final moments of stillness before returning to your day.

Give Your Body an Opportunity to Rest

Whether you’re navigating chronic pain, motherhood, burnout, or simply the demands of everyday life, you deserve moments when nothing is required of you.
Abhyanga offers that space.

A Personal Note from Sarah

Abhyanga was my very first introduction to Ayurveda back in 2011, and it has held a special place in my heart ever since. I’ve been practicing this traditional Ayurvedic oil massage for over 10 years, and my appreciation for it has only deepened with time. There is something incredibly special about the simplicity of warm oil, intentional touch, and the feeling of being deeply cared for. It’s an experience I genuinely wish everyone could have, and one I feel so grateful to share with others.
