Abhyanga

Abyangha is an ancient Ayurvedic technique and treatment using warm, herbal oils, which brings nourishment to the mind and body. It induces relaxation to the body, a quieting of the mind, helping the two reconnect.  I love this treatment because it is gentle but works deeply.

Traditionally, warm sesame oil is used for its deeply nourishing and balancing qualities. For those who need more targeted support, personalized herbal oil formulas may also be used depending on your current state and constitution.

Each session begins with a calming scalp and head treatment, followed by massage of the entire body—front and back—including the feet and a gentle belly massage to support digestion. The treatment closes with the soothing sounds of sound bowls to help settle the nervous system and integrate the experience.

Abhyanga helps seal and protect the skin, soothe and tone the muscles, support the nervous system, and create a sense of internal steadiness. It’s a core Ayurvedic practice that can benefit all three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—when approached with the right oils and intention.

It’s not just relaxing—it’s a way of supporting yourself more deeply.

Abhyanga supports so many aspects of well-being because it works directly on calming the nervous system—especially helpful for Vata and Pitta imbalances. When the body feels safe and relaxed, digestion improves, the mind softens, and emotional processing can unfold naturally.

It’s a deeply restorative form of self-care: quiet, nurturing, and spacious. You’re able to receive, rest, and reset—all while being gently tended to.

This isn’t a Swedish or deep tissue massage—it’s an ancient Ayurvedic practice designed to calm, nourish, and ground. The strokes are rhythmic and intentional, focusing less on force and more on supporting your body’s natural intelligence to recalibrate.
